I wrote this blog because I’ve been a part of so many weddings over the last 10 years and every wedding party is different and no longer fits into the same pre designed box from the 1980’s. This is why it’s important to pick the right wedding support crew for you!
I call these chosen folk your ‘Wedding Party, Wedding Crew or Support Crew’ Whatever you call your wedding party is totally up to you of course.
I personally don’t say bridal party, groomsmen, bridesmaids, ring boy, ring girl, flower girl, maid of honour etc etc. because I feel these terms are outdated and just don’t fit into todays’ language. Once you know better, you do better.
‘We adored our 10-strong support crew made up of family, life-long friends, trans, straight, gay, lesbians and all-in between. They were there cheering us on from the day we were engaged to the last drinks at the reception. We felt surrounded by love and positive vibes throughout our journey to becoming Mrs and Mrs Dysart thanks to them’ – Alyse & Brooklyn
Who you choose will probably be as invested in your day as you! They’ll want to hear every little idea you have, and you’ll want their honest feedback on the smallest of details. If you decide to pick a crew then there are a few things I want you to consider…
The absolute most important people that you want to be there with you on the day are those who;
- love you both whole heartedly and without reservation
- Don’t just pick a sibling or a cousin because you feel obligated. Pick a cousin or sibling because you can’t imagine not having them up there with you. If you don’t feel like that; then chances are they don’t either.
- Are your crew ready to show up when needed and won’t judge you if at times you get a bit overwhelmed and cranky during wedding planning? If the answers yes – lock them in!
- Your crew won’t mind if your favourite dress/suit colour is fluoro yellow, because hey, it’s now their favourite too!
- Your wedding party will check in with you from the beginning of the day right up until the DJ has played the very last song.
- They’ll make sure that you and your lover are safe and in the same Uber at the end of the night!
There really is so much your wedding support crew does in the build-up to the big day so make sure that throughout everything you let them know just how much you love and appreciate them too, because a good marriage will be supported by your whole community through tough times and good no matter what.
‘Our support crew were such an important part of our wedding experience. We chose our closest friends as we wanted them to know how much they meant to us.
They were there to celebrate with us in the lead up, support us through any prior nerves or stress and to ride the massive high with us that was the wedding day!
We couldn’t of imagined our day without them ❤️’ - Marli & Mel
The memories you‘ll make together will last a lifetime!
